I’ve spent 20 years as the senior engineer — in Sydney, in Silicon Valley, at early-stage startups and inside companies doing half a billion in revenue. Across all of those contexts, the constant has been the same: I’m the person who owns the hard problems end to end and makes sure they actually get solved.

AI has changed the economics of software engineering. The right senior engineer, working with modern AI tools, can now deliver what used to take a small team. I use these tools daily — not as a gimmick, but because they genuinely multiply what one experienced person can ship. The bottleneck was never typing speed; it was judgement and context. AI handles the former, and two decades of experience handles the latter.

Breadth is the point. Infrastructure, architecture, cost optimisation, CI/CD, analytics, AI integration — I work across the full stack because startups need someone who sees the whole picture, not a specialist who solves one problem and creates three others. One person, one relationship, whole picture.
